Casson of the Stalin Metro
In connection with the growing threat of war, in case of the destruction of bridges across the Dnieper, in 1936 a project of two underground tunnels was developed. The caisson of the "Stalin Metro" in Obolon is the result of the first stage of the construction of the northern tunnel. The tunnel was supposed to be under water at a depth of about 30 meters. By the beginning of the war, this project did not have time to realize, since construction began only in 1939, and after the end of hostilities it became irrelevant.
After a long time, the abandoned building was used by climbers. They used the wall of the caisson as a climbing wall. The height of the caisson is about 17 meters, the length is 52 meters. It is not difficult to find this pre-war object in the city, as well as to get to it. The nearest metro station is Obolon.
