In Kiev on Zhukovy Island there is one interesting object known as the Stalin Metro. During the Soviet era nobody knew about this project, as it was kept secret. The workers, on pain of being shot or feeling all the "joys" of repression, had no right to disclose information about the so-called "construction No. 1".
The object received its name due to the fact that in 1938 Stalin himself submitted the idea of creating underground passages. Realization of the idea was taken up by metro construction workers, and already in the late 30s of the 20th century the construction on this site was in full swing. The purpose of the Stalin Metro was to duplicate railway bridges. Thus, underground passages for the transport of valuable cargoes and transfer from shore to the shore of the troops were to be established directly under the Dnieper. However, the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the rapid approach of the German invaders to the city did not give the opportunity to complete the construction ofunderground tunnels. As a result, all work was urgently curtailed, and equipment was flooded in the Dnieper. At the end of the war, construction works did not resume, recognizing them unprofitable.
Today the Stalin Metro is an abandoned and half flooded structure. Part of the reinforced concrete pipe rises on Zhukovy Island. Some organize large-scale excursions here, but no one yet knows what the fate of the conserved construction will be.
