Trinity Church, Olyka
The grandiose church in the village of Olyka, built in Baroque style, strikes with its majesty and power. This building, erected in 1635, became a kind of copy of the Roman church of Ile-Jezu. The work was led by famous Italian architects. The newly-built building immediately gained the glory of the most beautiful building of Volyn.
On the facade of the church there were sculptures of saints - Paul, Peter, Wojciech, Stanislav. The figures of the twelve apostles rose above the pilasters. Inside the shrine was richly decorated with stucco molding. The main material for the decoration of this temple was alabaster and marble. The picture gallery dedicated to religious themes was the pride of the temple. But to our days, unfortunately, not all have survived.
Already a year after the construction of the church received the rank of collegiate. Soon here founded a spiritual school and academy, which operated almost until the time of the Second World War. Then the Soviet authorities closed the temple, and for about half a century it was left to itself, gradually decrepit and collapsing.
Today the majestic building regained its masters - the Catholic parish settled here. In the walls of the ancient church during religious holidays, there are divine services and mass. Behind the temple is a bell tower, consisting of five pylons that are connected by arches. The reconstruction of the temple has begun.
By the way, near the church there is another local landmark - Olyitsky Castle.
