Nighttime London in the 1930s6 photos
These photographs were taken nearly a century ago on the desolate and gloomy streets of the capital of the British Isles by two renowned photographers: John Morrison and Harold Burdekin.
The images are from the book "London Night," which has never been reprinted; its only edition was published in 1934. These photos were taken long before London began to address environmental issues. Therefore, the dark backdrop is not only created by the classic British fog but also by thick smog. When viewing these images, one feels as if it would be possible to encounter characters like Jack the Ripper and other sinister figures from London’s history in such quiet, secluded corners.
