National park in the state of Maranhao, in northern Brazil, southeast of the Gulf of São José, where the capital of the state of São Luis is located. This flat territory is located very low from the sea level, it is covered with characteristic large sand dunes up to 40 meters high. During the rainy season, many lagoons form between the dunes. The park covers an area of ​​about 1000 square meters. km and, despite frequent rains, has practically no vegetation.
