The basic principles of these exercises, which were designed for a wide range of participants, were documented in the book “Aerobics.” The term itself, “aerobic,” originates from physiology and refers to the chemical and energy processes that enable muscle function. In its broadest sense, aerobic exercise includes activities such as running, walking, skiing, skating, and swimming. When these exercises are performed together in a structured routine, they stimulate the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. This is precisely why the term “aerobics” is used to describe various programs that involve rhythmic movements to music.
Given the specific goals and objectives of different styles of modern aerobic dance, it is possible to classify them as follows: health-enhancing, practical, or competitive sports-oriented. Today, the effectiveness of aerobic exercise is widely recognized. Aerobic exercise involves sustained physical activity that helps balance oxygen supply with the body’s needs for it. The body’s response to this increased demand for oxygen is known as the training effect or positive physiological change. Aerobics is a proven means of losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight, which is precisely why it attracts so many young women. However, it should be noted that while physical exercise can certainly aid in weight loss, diet remains the most crucial factor.
