Expédition en Balkans. Croatie.
The difference in elevation between the upper and lower lakes is 133 meters. These two lakes are connected by waterfalls. Have you ever seen how champagne is poured into a pyramid made of empty glasses? The champagne is poured into the bottom glass, and when it fills up, it flows over into the glasses below. It’s exactly the same here. This is my third time in Croatia, and I had never visited this place before. So, despite the torrential rain, I decided to go to the park. In fact, we went there twice: in the morning and during the day. Early in the morning, while it was still raining, only a few members of our group decided to go. When we returned to the hotel, the sun came out, so we went again, but this time to another part of the park...
To get to the park from our hotel, we had to take a ferry to the other side of the lower lake:
Wooden paths have been laid out throughout the park. Without them, it would be impossible to make one’s way through the dense vegetation:
Often, these paths go right above the waterfalls. As you walk along them, the sound of the flowing water is right beneath your feet:
Many lakes are filled with leaves, branches, and tree trunks that have fallen into the water. These debris are quickly covered by mosses and other plants. As they decay, they harden and form dense deposits that can block rivers. Over time, the water erodes these barriers, creating new waterfalls.
During our walk, we saw countless waterfalls, ranging in size from small to enormous:
When the vegetation became sparser, the path led along the ground:
Upon leaving the park, we saw a huge crowd of tourists wearing raincoats. Clearly, we should have brought our own raincoes...
By noon, the sun came out again, so we went to another part of the park:
However, our good luck didn’t last long. Soon, it started raining again, so we had to take shelter under some rocks:
To reach the upper lake, we had to go through a large gap in the rocks:
