The Assumption Church in Dorogobuzh is one of the oldest in Volhynia. Its history began in the 11th century. Then another small town was the center of the principality of the famous family of Rurik. The temple was erected on top of a specially designed shaft for this purpose.

Looking at this shrine, it's hard to imagine that once the temple stood in the middle of a large monastery. The Orthodox monastery was built here in the late 16th century by Prince V. Ostrozhsky. At the same time the Assumption Church was rebuilt. This reconstruction is evidenced by the surviving fragments of the Old Russian plywood masonry.

But not only Orthodox believers visited this shrine. In the Assumption Church worship services for Greek Catholics were held. Unfortunately, the two cell buildings made at that time have not survived to our time. The wooden bell tower, which can still be seen today, was built in the church after the church was returned to the Orthodox parishioners.

Assumption Church awarded the status of a unique work of Ukrainian architecture 11-17 centuries. In this structure, the combination of traditions of ancient Russian architecture, Baroque style and some later architectural elements can be clearly seen.
