Holy Protection Church of Krasnogorsk Women's Monastery

Cherkasy region is rich in temples, and this one is its pearl. The Holy Protection Monastery sparkles in the sun with golden crosses and shines with a celestial blue light, the Zolotonoshka River flows nearby and the chic meadows stretch. The monastery was laid down on Red Hill in 1625 by an unknown companion from Constantinople, to whom the Mother of God herself appeared in a dream and indicated the path.

The monastery was laid down on Red Hillin 1625 by an unknown companion from Constantinople, to whom the Mother of God herself appeared in a dream and indicated the path. Initially, the monastery was intended for monks-men. The first building bore the name of Great Martyr George and resembled a hut, the material for its erection was ivy. The church had a connection with the Zaporozhye Sich, and during the turbulent times monks were hiding from the right bank of Ukraine.

At the end of the 18th century the monks were transferred to another monastery and their place was taken by the nuns. In the 20s of the 20th century the monastery was closed, along with other churches and temples. And in the 40's they opened it again. The patron of the monastery is St. Sophronius.

The Holy Intercession Monastery has more than 120 nuns and novices. The temple is open to all comers.
