When fascist persecutions of the Jewish people came to Ukraine, the grave of the righteous man was wiped from the face of the earth. And the Soviet authorities ordered the construction of a new residential block on the site of the former cemetery. With Ukraine gaining independence, those who remembered where the main Chassidim of the world are buried began to come to Uman. Over time, Nachman's followers bought out all the houses in the neighborhood of the coveted place and built a temporary synagogue.

Today  the grave of the righteous Nahman became the site of the numerous pilgrimage of Hasidim from all over the world. Every year in the early autumn, before the arrival of Rosh Hashanah in the synagogue, built on the site of the repose of Rebbe, thousands of believers gather.
