The Transfiguration Church, Shumsk
With all the diversity of Ukrainian churches and temples belonging to different faiths, the Spaso-Preobrazhenskaya Church in Shumsk stands out. This temple not only underwent a lot of changes in appearance, but also changedseveral times from one confession to another. The Savior-Transfiguration Church is executed in the Gothic-Renaissance style.
The church was built in 1637 and was originally Basilian (Uniate). The founder of the monastery was voivode Malinsky, who bequeathed to preserve and renovate the church. The covenant was not fulfilled. In 1676, one of the heirs of the voivode goes to the Catholic faith and passes the monastery to the Franciscans as a generous gift. In another 30 years, the grandson of the late Malinsky reconstructs the church and consecrates it as a church with the new name of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. A little later the church has a baroque bell tower. Since 1837 the church has passed into the hands of Orthodox Christians.
