Assumption Church, Skala-Podolskaya
The Roman Catholic Cathedral in a small district center Skala-Podolskaya in the Ternopil region can be rightly considered the last echo of the Gothic in Ukraine. The sharp spire of the bell tower proudly rises, causing associations with the churches of the Czech Republic and Poland.
The cathedral was erected in the beginning of the 18th century with the money of Valentin Mezheyevsky, who at that time owned the village. The spire of the bell tower was completed in the 19th century. At the same time, a tower clock was installed on it, and the building was surrounded by powerful defensive walls with corner towers. These fortifications are not preserved.
And the temple itself miraculously survived and reached its architectural grandeur to the present day. After all, during the Soviet times it was closed, the building was equipped with a power station and warehouses. Now the church was returned to the faithful. The church has been restored, the services of the Greek Catholic community are held there. On the wall of the church there is a memorial plaque in honor of the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz.
If you are in Skal-Podolsky, be sure to look at the picturesque ruins of the ancient castle.
