Church of St. George the Victorious
In the distant 1032, Prince Yaroslav the Wise laid the foundationfor the creation of the city of St. George's. Subsequently, this place became the core of the city, as a settlement around it was formed. The area adjacent to Zamkova Hill was quite waterlogged. However, despite everything, the Jurists came into conflict with nature and were able to settle well.
During the Mongol invasion the city was completely burnt. From him remained only the ruins of the church. According to the legend, in honor of this white-stone shrine and the city was named. The foundation of the ancient temple was discovered only in the 1980s during the excavations, here, too, were found the plans for construction. In 2011, it was decided to begin the resumption of the churchunder the project of architect Mishchenko.
During the construction work, the design of ancient Russian churches of the 11th-13th centuries was taken as a basis. According to the idea in the basement, an exposition of finds found on Castle Hill was placed. And next to the temple a monument to Yaroslav the Wise was erected.
