Theater Square in Chernivtsi
One of the favorite places for recreation of residents and guests of Chernivtsi, of course, is the Theater Square. Luxury buildings erected in the last century, amaze with its majesty and, at the same time, refinement.
The main pearl in this ensemble, of course, is the theater.Built in the beginning of the last century by the project of two geniuses who built the legendary theaters of Odessa and Vienna, he bewitches with the richness of the decor of his facade. Above its entrance there is a sculptural composition, which is a scene from the ancient Greek tragedy "Oedipus the Tsar". In front of the building on the pedestal there is an elegant sculpture of the writer Olga Kobylianska, in honor of which the theater is named.
A little further from the theater is the elegant building of the former Jewish folk house, erected in the style of eclecticism. The premise of the Romanian people's house, used in the Soviet times as the House of Officers, is surprising that its right side is much longer than the left one, as the authors conceived. All the grandiose buildings were erected in the 20th century. But in 2000, the Alley of Stars appeared on the square, where the names of prominent figures of culture and art commemorated, which began their journey in Chernivtsi.
