Church of St. Paraskeva, Drohobych
The Church of St. Paraskeva is the only log house of Drogobych. It is located a few steps from the main sight of the city - the church of St. George.
At the beginning of the 18th century, most of the temples were erected on the site of the once-ruined ones. Paraskeva Church was no exception. From the 15th to the 18th century, on the site of the modern church there was an ordinary village chapel. Strongest fire destroyed the church to the ground. But the holy place is never empty, and already in 1855 it was occupied by the majestic church of St. Paraskeva.
It is noteworthy that the newly-born shrine became a real masterpiece of Ukrainian folk architecture. One-story three-nave structure built on technology "without a single nail", and today it is considered one of the most beautiful temples of the country.
Surprisingly, for its 200-year history, the Church of St. Paraskeva has not undergone large-scale reconstruction. This allowed to preserve the authentic appearance and the original decoration of the temple.
For 30 years - from 1960 to 1990 - the church did not fulfill its religious functions. Fortunately, the ancient structure was closed, and did not become a warehouse. This step of the Soviet authorities allowed us to protect from the destruction of the iconostasis and icons of the church that adorn the building today.
Any visitor can see them. The doors of the temple are open at any time of the day.
