Basilian Monastery (Zolochiv)
The Basilian monastery, along with the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord and the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, belongs to the most beautiful sights of Zolochev.
Like most of the cult buildings in Western Ukraine, the monastery of the Order of the Vasilian Fathers had a difficult fate.
Unfortunately, the exact date of the monastery is unknown. The first mention of it appeared in 1567. In the 16th century the monastery was the largest religious building of Zolochev and its surroundings.
But in this status the shrine did not stay long. In 1665 it was completely destroyed by the Tatars.
The complete destruction of the monastery entailed a series of reconstructions. Due to one of them - in the 19th century - the monastery gained its present appearance. Executed in stone, the structure stood steadfastly during the war and the years of Soviet rule. By the way, during the USSR the monastic complex performed the functions of an anti-tuberculosis dispensary.
Today the Basilian monastery is the operating monastery of St.Josaphat. It is located on the outskirts of Zolochev. Its doors are always open to people of any religion.
