Walking along the cozy streets of Lviv, you will certainly pay attention to the monument to the Ukrainian genius, writer and poet Taras Shevchenko. Located in the center of the city, it attracts attention with impressive size.

The silhouette of the poet rises against the background of a 12-meter stela, called the "Wave of National Liberation".This bronze figure with bas-reliefs was discovered relatively recently - in 1996. A few years earlier, in 1992, the monument itself was erected.

The history of its appearance is not simple. The decision to perpetuate the Ukrainian genius was made back in Soviet times. But the results of the two republican contests for the best project did not yield any special results. And when the authorities decided on the future monument, there was no financing. Therefore, the monument was built on funds that were collected by the Ukrainian diaspora.

Now the square near the monument is a favorite vacation spot for Lviv people.
