The Intercession Church (Parhomivka)

The Intercession Church in Parhomivka is rightfully considered the main attraction of the local surroundings. Graceful and picturesque, luxurious and solemn, thought out to the smallest detail, unparalleled in architecture for hundreds of kilometers around, the incomparable Pokrovskaya church was conceived as a charity event for ordinary peasants in the village of Parkhomovka. Its founder was a wealthy industrialist and engineer Viktor Fedorovich Golubev.

Graceful and picturesque, luxurious and solemn, thought out to the smallest detail, unparalleled in architecture for hundreds of kilometers around, the incomparable Pokrovskaya church was conceived as a charity event for ordinary peasants in the village of Parkhomovka.

Its founder was a wealthy industrialist and engineer Viktor Fedorovich Golubev. Among his interests were always objects of antiquity, fine arts and artwork. Since 1903, he starts with his own funds the construction of the Intercession Church. For the project, architect Pokrovsky, Blagoveshchensky, artist Roerich, masters of mosaic works were involved. By the summer of 1906, a large-scale construction was completed, although its author did not live to see the landmark date, having died in February 1903. The continuers of the great cause of Golubev were his sons Victor and Leo, who coped with the task magnificently, presenting the present work of architectural art to the Kyiv region.

The Intercession Church was built in the Neo-Russian traditional manner with the permissible elements of Art Nouveau, popular in the early 20th century (the main gates of the church are made in this style). The temple complex includes all the necessary church elements and buildings: a large bell tower, a rounded dome and a separate chapel, named for St. Victor. Here it is possible to hold divine services, even if the liturgy is already taking place in the main hall of the church. On the facade there is an image of the "Protection of the Virgin", and inside the high walls are decorated with thematic paintings. Near the temple in 1994, a monument was erected to engineer Golubev, a benefactor and creator of the Intercession Church.
