Sobanski Palace
In the village of Obodovka there is a beautiful palace ensemble erected for the family of a large merchant Mikhail Sobansky. This architectural masterpiece was created for almost 100 years.
Today the palace consists of four parts, built at different times, they are connected to each other and form an organic ensemble.
First, in 1800, a house with a tower in the style of Romanticism was built. Then a two-level gallery with a four-tier tower was added to the facade. Approximately in 1890 the house became partially three-storeyed, also there was an open terrace at the front entrance of the palace from where you could admire the beautiful views of the park and the pond.
The park was created by Irishman Miklerand initially occupied an area of 17 hectares. On this territory there was a swimming pool with a fountain, a lot of statues and benches, rare kinds of trees and flowers were also planted here.
In the park there is a church built in 1822, and a burial vault.
The history of the palace in the 20th century repeats the history of many other monuments of the tsarist era: after the revolution, the Bessarabian commune was located in the palace, it was later taken over by the collective farm; in the post-war period it was housed by the district executive committee, and in 1959 the palace and park were transferred to the Obodov boarding school.
In the 1990s, funding ceased completely, and now the palace is in an emergency condition.
