Litinsky local lore museum named after Ustim Karmalyuk
The Museum of Local Lore is the pride of the city of Litin and the entire Litinsky district. It was located in the old building of the former city prison, in the entrance gate. The institution bears the name of Ustim Karmalyuk, the national hero of Ukraine, the founder and leader of the insurgency against national oppression in Podillia in 1813-1835. Karmalyuk is the main hero for the inhabitants of Podillia.
The museum was founded in 1979, in 1993 it received the status of the state. The building for the museum was chosen not by chance, it was here that in 1830 the hero languished in anticipation of execution, but after 2 years he managed to dismantle the ceiling in his cell and flee. This was just one of the many shoots that Ustim Karmalyuk accomplished during his entire struggle.
The museum's collection includes 8000 exhibitsthat introduce tourists to the history and culture of Trypillians, the Holodomor events of 1932-1933. There is a permanent exhibition "Ustim Karmalyuk - Life and Feats".
Litin Museum of Local Lore is open from 09:00 to 18:00 all days except Sundays. In winter time - from 08:00 to 17:00.
