Trinity Church, Berestechko
The history of the Trinity Church, like the history of the entire Berestechka, is closely connected with Polish culture. The church is architectural and religious a monument. The construction of the cathedral was started with the money of the Polish leader Tomasz Karczewski. At the end of the 17th century Berestechko belonged to his family. The first stone of the church was laid on July 24, 1711, and with it a monastery was built. So the Poles tried to perpetuate the victory near Berestechko. The temple was to confirm the power of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and show all the greatness of their faith. The construction of the temple was completed in 1765 by another owner of the city - Jan Zamoysky.
The majestic view of the Trinity Church impresses tourists today. It is built in rococo style. From the retellings that have reached our days, we can judge about the interior of the temple. They decorated the cathedral paintings with episodes of the Battle of Berestechko. Here was kept the saber Yarema Vishnevetsky, which in 1920 was taken out by the Bolsheviks. Altars in the temple were eight, and the decoration was complemented by wooden sculptures and unique icons. In the basement of the church there were several underground passages, but now they are unfit for use.
During the Second World War, the monastery suffered from a shell explosion. Wooden sculptures were removed from the church, the organ was destroyed. Fragments of some sculptures are kept today in the Olesko Castle. After the war, the church had a warehouse for harvesting grain, and since 1952 a cheese factory was operating in the monastery building. Today, the church needs restoration work, but even in this form the temple impresses its refinement and refined architecture.
