In the center of Dnepropetrovsk is a beautiful park named after Taras Shevchenko. Its existence is due to the Zaporozhye captain of the Cossacks.

Even before Katerina I founded Katerinoslav (now Dnepropetrovsk), at the beginning of the 8th century a glorious captain of Zaporozhye troops Lazar Globa settled on the banks of the Dnieper. He was not only a good Cossack, but also an inveterate gardener. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, but the gardens that Globa planted have remained. The lower garden was located on the territory of the present Taras Shevchenko park, and the Upper Garden occupied the lands of the modern park of Lazarus Globa.

The lower garden was bought from Prince Glory by Prince Potemkin for 3000 rubles and built a palace on its territory. Then it was rightfully called the Potemkin Garden. There were planted many species of trees. After his death, the garden was launched. But in 1805, Emperor Alexander I ordered to equip it for public festivities. Every evening there played a brass band, gazebos, a restaurant, a cinematograph, various floral arrangements were planted. Not surprisingly, the entrance to the garden was paid. And in 1917 the garden was renamed into the park named after Taras Shevchenko.

To date, it is no less colorful. You can stroll along the park paths with family or friends. Also in the park are specially arranged tables for playing chess, where young people show their skills, and older people. In the Potemkin Palace is the Palace of Students, where various concerts, literary evenings, scientific conferences are held. The exterior and interior interior are very beautiful, so here are filmed weddings and other celebrations. In addition, under the palace there are several underground passages and labyrinths, about which many legends are composed.

The park is located on a hill, so from the observation deck you can see a picturesque view of the Dnieper and the embankment. There is also a cascading fountain and several cafes. From here you can go down to the embankment of Lenin, or go along the bridge to the Monastery Island. There is a monument to Taras Shevchenko and a snow-white church of St. Nicholas. Also you can visit numerous attractions or have a pleasant time in one of the cafes. A walk in the park Shevchenko you will like and leave a lot of vivid impressions.
