The building was not damaged in the Second World War, like many historical buildings in Lviv. The Soviet period did not leave its traces on the ancient interior decor, unlike many of the Catholic churches in the city, which in the USSR were used as business premises. Therefore, guests can enjoy the delightful paintings, stucco, created by artists of the 18-19 centuries.

History of St. Anthony's Church

The Catholic Church was founded in 1718. At first it was a wooden church at the monastery of the Franciscans. The church was built with the participation of the familyofVishnevetskyprinces, who were an influential dynasty of Lviv of the 18th century. In 70 years, in 1784, the church became a parish church, which requires expansion. Therefore, the construction of a stone building began, which has been perfectly preserved to the present day.

Interior and architecture

Construction work on the improvement of the temple lasted several decades. According to the project of architectMarkle, changes were made in the construction of the building. In 1818 a bell tower was erected, which completed the architectural ensemble, and in 1845 the interior was refined. The rich decorative ornaments of the vaults and the main hall are integral elements of the rococotrend.

The main attraction of the temple is the grand staircase with a porch and sculpture, installed to the left of the entrance.

During the services, the pastors preach in both Ukrainian and Russian, as well as in Polish. Nearby you can see the unusual church of St. Michael with a very expressive architecture.
