Church of Saints Peter and Paul (Jesuit Church), Lviv

In the center of historical Lviv stands the Jesuit Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. One of the most majestic and significant cultural buildings of the city. The cathedral is located on Teatralnaya Street.

This Lviv landmark is very attractive for visitors of the city.

The construction of the cathedral lasted 20 years from 1610. History did not retain the name of the author of the project, but it is known that the first stone was laid by a Jesuit monk. The work on the construction was led by an Italian architect named Giacomo Briano.
The Jesuit church is luxurious from the outside and is equally gorgeous inside, made in the baroque style. The walls are decorated with decorative sculpture and sculptures, bas-reliefs and old frescoes. But the greatest value and pride of the cathedral is the Baroque altar of the 18th century.
The cathedral is shrouded in mystery. It is spoken of as the most mysterious temple. And all thanks to the dungeons. Here the spirit of medieval Lviv is hovering. There is a legend that a black monk is wandering in the labyrinths of the dungeon.
In the church services are held, and the dungeon can be visited with an excursion to fully penetrate the power of the holy place.
