Chiang Chan is the largest city in the world from Saman, preserved to this day
On the coast of the Pacific Ocean, near the city of Trujillo (Peru) is a very little-known, but very large and ancient city of Chiang Chan. He was the capital of the state of Chimor, which existed in the 10-15 centuries, and was considered the largest pre-Columbian city in South America. The locals, the Chimu Indians, were a highly developed civilization and perfectly mastered various crafts. Approximately Chiang Chan was built in 850 AD and existed until 1470, until it was conquered by the Incas.
In the best times of the state, its capital occupied about 20 square kilometers, and lived in it about 60 thousand people. Chan-chan was well fortified: it had nine large citadels, each of which was surrounded by solid earth walls, the height of which ranged from 9 to 20 meters. City walls chim liked to decorate with carvings depicting deities and various animals.

Chan-chan was built primarily from adobe, a mixture of clay and straw, and was considered the largest city of adobe in the world. Such a material was chosen not by accident, because at that time the city was located in one of the most arid coastal deserts, where for the whole year there were only about 20 millimeters of precipitation. And in such a hot climate, as you know, houses from adobe can stand well for hundreds of years. That is why the amazing structures of the ancient city are so well preserved to this day.

However, now, with climate change, Chiang Chan faces a real danger. Recently, heavy rains have become frequent in this region, which literally wash the structures off the face of the earth. Under the influence of humidity, adobe very quickly collapses, which is why there is a great risk that another hundred years the city may not survive.
