Santa Jousta: where the unusual elevator of the student Eiffel, that stands in the middle of Lisbon

It turns out that everything is very simple - in the upper district. For centuries, the steep hills of Lisbon have caused a lot of inconvenience to residents, because they had to regularly climb large ascents to just get to another area. However, it was as long as Raul du Ponsard did not come up with a very simple way to help people-he created a metal steam-lift that connected the Baixa and Bairro Alto areas. It was called Santa Jushta.

A beautiful design, created in the Neo-Gothic style, still helps pedestrians to overcome a steep slope. And in 1906 the elevator was modernized and completely transferred to electric traction. The cabin can accommodate up to 25 people at a time. After rising, you will be directly on the covered bridge, which leads to the square of Karma. In addition, at the top level there is an observation platform, which opens a delightful view of the whole district and Rossu square.
