Autumn in France smells of chestnuts ... Fete de la Chataigne - national chestnut feast

It is a pity that we do not grow such chestnuts as in some regions of France. Our chestnut (horse) tastes like a taste, and is used in the medical, not the food industry. Their chestnut (cougurdon)is the basis of the whole chestnut menu & ndash; from it everything is prepared, from soup to dessert.

Autumn in France & ndash; it's time for delicious holidays. In the second half of October, the French massively cherish chestnuts. On the streets they are fried and sold in bags, as we have sunflower seeds. It is said that the baked (fried) chestnut is like a hazelnut taste. I'd like to try, and not only in such a simple form. In general, from the chestnut trees, the French manage to prepare salads, soups, mashed potatoes, side dishes and sauces. Chestnut is put in a risotto and served with meat. There are recipes for chestnut ice cream and sweet mousses (it fits well with chocolate and fruits). And from them they make flour, from which they bake bread and other goodies. In general, chestnuts are baked, fried, boiled, stewed, dried, canned & ndash; I did not know that this is such a universal product!

Before the frying, the chestnuts are usually incised with a cross (not to shoot like popcorn)

The skin is peeled off, the core is eaten — as in walnut

Roasted chestnuts in special pans ...

Small ...

& hellip; and large

Appetizing? YES !!!

Chestnut menu is very diverse

An edible chestnut-cougardon needs to be eaten fresh & ndash; in the refrigerator it can be stored for not more than a week, otherwise it can start eating inside the worm. Chestnuts are tested for freshness by immersion in water & ndash; fresh drown, not very fresh & ndash; will pop up.

Of course, on the day of chestnut (F? te de la Châtaigne)on the streets of French cities, everything is not limited to eating chestnuts. Theater performances, sports competitions and other fun activities gather in the streets a lot of people. Chestnuts & ndash; almost like sunflower seeds, they can be snapped together at a table, something delicious washing down)))

Our grandmothers gnaw seeds together, French grandmothers — chestnuts)))

And not just grandmothers

Everyone bought ...

The F? te de la Châtaigne has its own site. It's a pity that I'm not friends with the French at all, so I can show only photographs from there. There are even recipes)))

This is the kind of cougurdon

Interestingly, we will have such a growth?
