Roffe's Baths

The building was built in the courtyard of the hotel France on the Yalta embankment in 1897, commissioned by the merchant A.I. Rofe, owner of the guild of Rofe (Roffe) and sons. The architect of the building was Nikolai Krasnov, the author of the Great Livadia Palace. At the request of Mr. Roffe, a ceremonial portal in the Moorish style was added to the building of the baths. The facade of the portal is made of white marble, the quote from the Koran was carved on it. Be blessed, like water. In addition to the portal, the value is represented by a Moroccan-style lounge with stucco molding. In the Kupalne, baths with warmed sea water were installed for a purifying and restorative healing effect. Here rested Ivan Bunin, Fedor Shalyapin, AP. Chekhov and other members of the Society of Writers and Scientists, who enjoyed a four-fold discount from the merchant Roffe. During the Great Patriotic War the building of the hotel was destroyed, while the bathhouses miraculously survived. Since 1975, the rehearsal base of the Chervona Ruta ensemble was located here.
