Krasnokutsky dendropark (park, 1793-1809).
Krasnokutsky dndropark is one of the oldest dendrological parks in Ukraine. Founded in 1809 (according to other sources, in 1793) by the biologist I. Karazin, the brother of the founder of the Kharkov University V. Karazin, in the family estate.
Their father N. Karazin, the colonel of the Russian army, received these lands from Catherine II. His son, Ivan Nazarovich, conducted reclamation work on the outskirts of the former military settlement, on the site of the Cossack Petropavlovsky Monastery (1664), and laid a dendrological park here. Traveling the world, he collected many seedlings and seeds of rare plants, which then acclimatized. Among them: ginkgo, Canadian poplar, Western platan, Lowah fir, Weymouth pine, Japanese quince, black nut, etc. Now the Krasnokutsky dendrological park is a part of Krasnokutsk research station of gardening, the entrance is free. The caves of the Peter and Paul Monastery have been preserved on the territory.
