Freedom Square in Kharkov - the central square of the city. It is one of the twenty largest areas of the world. According to legend, at the time of construction was the largest area in Europe (11.9 hectares), although in fact, a similar area was then already occupied by the Chess Square in Bordeaux (12 hectares), and the Kuibyshev Square in Samara with adjoining squares was even larger (17 , 4 hectares).

Freedom Square was built in 1926-28. as the new administrative center of Kharkov, then the capital of Ukraine. Initially bore the name of the revolutionary F. Dzerzhinsky, who supervised the construction (it is believed that he was the initiator of clearing the chaotic development of the historical center of Kharkov). Since 1995, the area has the current name. Here often there are political actions, festivals, festivals and concerts.
