A tour of Istanbul in the 19th century
For one of the largest megacities, the nineteenth century was the stage of another revival. Weakened politically and financially, the Ottoman Empire finally decided to take up the development of one of the most beautiful cities in the Middle East.

This photo trip was made possible, thanks to the discovery of a whole heap of rare photographs taken by the Swedish photographer Guillaume Berggren (Guillaume Berggren). He spent about thirty years in Turkey, in the interval from the 70s of the XIX century to the zero of the XX-th. It was at this time that a new wave of construction began in Istanbul. In addition, a new residence for the Ottoman Sultan was erected. It was called Dolmabahce Palace. Panoramic photos, as well as city landscapes - the main emphasis of the images.
