Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life
In 1970, the opening of the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life under the Open Sky was held. Its purpose was to preserve unique wooden monuments architecture of Transcarpathia. The basis of the ethnographic museum -wooden buildings with household objects, which were brought from all over Transcarpathia.
The territory of the museum is located on the southern slope of Zamkova Hill, which lies at the foot of the Uzhgorod Castle and covers an area of 5.5 hectares. Here you can see the buildings of different peoples inhabiting Transcarpathia - Hungarians, Romanians, Hutsuls, Lemkis, strikers, valley people. In each building the interior corresponding to the given region, with samples of household utensils is preserved - all this can be inspected inside. In addition to residential buildings, there is also a church building, a bell tower, a school, a tavern, a water mill, a well, a smithy and many others. Over 14,000 exhibitsare located in the museum's territory, all of which testify to the rich and diverse culture of the peoples inhabiting Transcarpathia.
All exhibits are unique and are masterpieces of ancient architecture. One of the most significant is the Lemkovskaya wooden Mikhailovskaya church, dating from 1777, its height is 22 meters. In total, only two churches of this type survived in Ukraine. Ancient temple on the territory of the museum continues its life, today there are constantly held divine services.
Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life is very popular, it is interesting for adults and children, everything is impregnated with love for the history of the native land.
The museum takes visitors daily from 10:00 to 18:00 in the summer and from 9:00 to 17:00 in the winter. Located on the street Kapitulnaya, 33/and in the city of Uzhhorod.
