Bugsky Liman

The Ingul and the Southern Bug rivers contribute to it. The dimensions of the estuary are 11 km wide and 82 km long. Along the coast there are several braids, namely the Russian and Voloshskaya. On this estuary is the city of Nikolaev, which has a long history. It was from the shores of this estuary in 1944 that the landing mission of Olshansky went on a combat mission. Now in this place you can see the granite monument of memory with the names of the heroes. It is noteworthy that at first the liman was perceived as a part of the Bug River, for this reason all old documents state this name. The waters of the estuary refer to the inland sea waters of Ukraine and have a status of a water object of national importance.

The Bug estuary washes the lands of the once famous Greek city of Olbia. It was created in the 6th century BC and occupied an area of ​​about 50 hectares. The population was about 15 thousand people. Olvia was a developed colony and had connections with different cities and settlements on the shores of the Black Sea, but in the 70s of the 4th century AD it was destroyed by the Huns. Today this territory belongs to the village of Parutino, Mykolayiv region. At the site of the ancient city and excavations are still conducted, and the items found are kept in different museums of Ukraine and other countries. An archaeological expedition from the Institute at the National Academy of Sciences works on an ongoing basis in the area of ​​the ancient city.

Since the Bugsky Liman is washing the city of Nikolaev, you can get to it without problems. From the city center by car, the road will be about 25 km and a little more than 30 minutes without traffic jams. You can also use public transport, which leaves from the railway station.
