Lukyanov Prison Castle or Lukyanovsky Detention Center No. 13 is located in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kiev. The prison has several buildings in its structure, the main one was built in 1859-1862. Now the building has a status of a historical monument. The main architect was M. Ionnikov. This institution was opened in 1863.

During the Russian Empire, all prisons had to be exemplary institutions. Lukyanovskaya was no exception and was a member of the top ten best-practice institutions. A church was built on the territory of the prison. Already in Soviet times, cameras were made in it. In 1864, it was decided to build a chapel for the Jews. The remaining buildings, which have survived to this day, were built at the end of the 19th century. Initially, the prison was calculated for 595 places and had 46 "single" cells. By 1900, the Lukyanov Prison Castle numbered 10 stone buildings that had different purposes. Among other things, there was a system of underground passages that united different parts of the prison with each other. The tunnels were covered with metal doors, as well as locks and alarms. In the pre-war years, the castle accounted for 25 thousand arrested.

All the corps of the prison have their names, the oldest of them is called "Katenka". They say that it was built during the reign of Catherine II. In this building there are chambers of life-imprisoned prisoners and privileged prisoners. Next comes the "Stolypinka", built during the time of Stolypin, later "Brezhnevka" and "Kuchmovka" were attached to it. By the way, the cameras in the last buildings are smaller and lower. Also there is "Maloletka" - for juvenile prisoners and women's corps. There are yards for outdoor walks, cameras for different categories of prisoners, for example, mentally ill or tubercular.

One of the presidents of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, A. Bogomolets, was born in this prison. It contained many famous people throughout the prison's existence.
