Lukyanovskaya Square, Kiev

On the territory of Lukyanovskaya Square there is a shopping center "Kvadrat", as well as the Lukyanov market. This area is part of the historical district of Lukyanovka. Its intensive settlement began after the flood on Podol, which occurred in 1845. Whence this area got its name is not known exactly, most experts tend to think that from some Lukyan Alexandrovich. He had large plots of land in these parts. There is another legend according to which Prince Lukyan won a dispute with his brothers against this land. The only reliable option does not exist to this day.

Now in this part of Kiev you can see more modern buildings and buildings of the Soviet era, and the old and pre-revolutionary structures were demolished in the period from the 70s to 80s of the 20th century. Although some houses are still preserved. When the settlement of Lukyanovka was just beginning, these regions were considered suburbs of the capital. Later, the features of the city captured this territory, and it became a suburb. Nowadays Lukyanovskaya square and nearby streets are the very center of the Shevchenko district of the city, which is also not far from the center of Kiev itself. Local authorities plan to completely rebuild the areain the coming years: plans to remove tram tracks, create a two-lane tunnel, and traffic on some streets to make one-sided.
