One of the most beautiful ensembles of Kiev - Vydubitsky Monastery - lies between the two Dnieper hills. Throughout the whole period of its existence this building was the center of the religious life of the capital.

It is curious that one of the largest temples was conceived as a family church. Vydubitsky Monastery was erected in 1070 by Prince Vsevolod as a gratitude for the birth of his son. Later the church became the family shrine of Vladimir Monomakh and his descendants.

In the 16-17 centuries on the territory of the monastery was a necropolis for famous people.

Despite the large donations to the temple from the royal people, the original view of the Vydubitsky monastery was not preserved. Most of the complex's facilities were built of wood, which explains their fragility. The only exception was Mikhailovskiy Cathedral, whose pristine appearance can be enjoyed today.

An important role in maintaining the appearance of the Mikhailovsky Church was played by numerous reconstructions. Most of them mutilated the face of the church, diversifying the elements with the elements of Ukrainian baroque.

By the way, the modern view of the church is the property of the capital restoration of the 1980s. During the restoration of the walls, unique images of princely times and frescoes of the 18-19th centuries were discovered. Every visitor of the temple can see these examples of ancient art.

Currently, the Vydubitsky Monastery is a church complex that unites St. George's Church, St. Michael's Cathedral, the ancient bell tower, the brotherly building and the abbot's house. Every monk can visit the monasteries, regardless of religion.
