#### Bread Factory, Amusement Park “Château de Fleurs”

The Tikhoretsky noble family’s summer gardens “Aquarium” and the “Avanguard” Cultural Palace on Chobotarskaya Street.

Who would have thought that Chobotarskaya Street, a street inhabited primarily by craftsmen and merchants and far from being central, was known for several impressive architectural landmarks? For example, the building at number 3, whose author is unknown. The rental apartment building at number 45, designed by architect Ginzburg in 1908. And then there’s the bread factory built by I.I. Zagoskyin in 1887 (building number 80), located at the corner of Chobotarskaya and Krasnoarmeyskaya Streets – today it houses offices. Finally, there’s the most interesting building at number 36. In the early 20th century, the “Château de Fleurs” amusement park was located here; previously, this same building housed the office of the Purchasers’ Association. Later, the Tikhoretsky noble family established their summer garden “Aquarium” here. Over the years, the building was destroyed during the war. During the Soviet era, the “Avanguard” Cultural Palace was built on its site. In July 2011, this palace and the surrounding street were used as filming locations for the movie “The Match,” which depicts a football match between the “Start” team and the German national team “Flakelhof” that took place in occupied Kiev in August 1942 – an event historically known as “The Match of Death.” The Tikhoretskys also owned summer gardens called “Aquarium” in many other cities of the Russian Empire, including the two capitals, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Unfortunately, no photographs of the “Aquarium” garden have survived.
