Scientists' House (10 Sovnarkomovskaya Street).5 photos
The Scientists' House (Sovnarkomovskaya Street, 10).
The house was built in 1898 by Anna Alekseevna Beketova, née Alchevskaya, in the Neo-Greek style according to the design of her husband, architect A.N. Beketov. It was constructed for her family, with the assistance of the young architect V.G. Krichevsky. It is not possible to determine exactly what contributions Krichevsky made to the project. The facade of the house, similar to that of Ignatishchev’s mansion, features very similar reliefs.
On the second floor, on the western side, there was a portico with cariatids. In the 1920s, this portico was extended without the original architect’s involvement. The interiors of this house are particularly interesting; the staircase is decorated with colored stained glass.
After the death of Aleksey Kirillovich Alchevsky, A.A. Beketova’s house was sold to the attorney K.P. Prikhodkov.
Today, the Library of The Scientists' House is located in a neighboring one-story stone building, which was constructed by the noblewoman Goloperova in 1889.
