Poltava Street, House No. 13 In the center of a round square lies House No. 13, which was built in 1832 by the honorary citizen Pavlov as a town residence. It is a two-story building with a four-column portico, designed according to the plans of architect A.A. Ton. In 1875, it was expanded at the design of architect F.I. Danilov, carried out by E.P. Zhilinskaya, the daughter of a court counselor. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Musssuri Theater building (now the vacant music comedy theater on K. Marx Street) no longer met the needs of the residents of Kharkiv. Therefore, it was proposed to build a large three-story universal theater, along with an accompanying inn and restaurant, at the site of House No. 13 and the surrounding houses. This project was designed by architect A.N. Beketov. In 1914, Beketov prepared the design plans, and efforts began to raise funds for the construction of the theater. However, the outbreak of World War I prevented this project from coming to fruition, and the city never obtained the much-needed theater building. In 1919, the Kharkiv Headquarters of Special Purpose Forces (ChON) was located in this house. Today, the October District Military Commissariat is situated in Houses No. 13 and No. 15.
