It was constructed for Ephim Danilovich Shkolarenko, who owned a plot of land in this area; prior to that, there were only a small stone annex and a wooden shed on the site. Even during the preliminary stages of construction, Shkolarenko agreed that his new house could be used to accommodate a private women’s gymnasium with a boarding school, which was in need of space.
