Vozdvizhenka

Located Vozdvizhenka almost in the center of Kiev - between the Upper Val and the Andreevsky Descent and consists of the streets of Goncharnaya, Degtyarnaya, Kozhemyatskaya and Vozdvizhenskaya. In the past, this place was called the Gonchary-Kozhemyaki tract, and attracted settlers to its protection by the Podil hills. Most of the craftsmen settled here: potters, goatskids, blacksmiths, stonemasons. From here went the names of streets that corresponded to certain crafts.

In the middle of the 19th century, new buildings of wealthy merchants began to prevail here, which gradually supplanted craft shops. Here was built a new stone church of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, instead of the burnt wooden church during a big fire. According to tradition, an Orthodox shrine is kept here - a piece of the Cross of the Lord. Hence the name of the district - Vozdvizhenka. In 1891 Mikhail Bulgakov, who was born in the house No. 10 on Vozdvizhenskaya Street, was baptized in this church.

Since the middle of the last century, old houses began to decline due to emergency conditions, residents began to resettle. Gradually the district began to turn into a wasteland.

In the early 2000s the revival of Vozdvizhenka began. The new neighborhood consists of 3, 4 and 5-storey buildings built in the style of Ukrainian Baroque and Art Nouveau with Gothic elements. Elite area with multi-colored houses for fun is called a "ghost town of millionaires. "A three-story mansion worth $ 4 million can not afford a simple Kyivite, so almost no one lives there. The area is very popular for hiking and photo sessions.

In general, the new district recreates the architecture of the 19th century and resembles the streets of old cities in Europe. Many houses have a luxurious view and look like fairytale castles with Gothic spiers. A picturesque view of Vozdvizhenka opens from the Landscape alley: colorful roofs resemble a fairy town.
