Chatsky's head, Zhytomyr
A gazebo of the city park in Zhytomyr offers a magnificent view of the Zhitomir Canyon. Here the river Teterev rustles, washing the granite banks with bizarre rocks, piled up in a picturesque mess. One of them, located on the left bank of the river, is called the Chatsky's Head - it is one of the geological monuments of national importance. The rock on the right bank is called the Four Brothers.
There are several legends about the origin of the name. The most famous tells of a brave warrior who, defending the city, lured hundreds of enemies to the top of a granite block and dragged them after him to certain death. Horse Chatsky finally hit the rock with a hoof, and she became like a warrior's head. According to another version, the rock is named after T. Chatsky, who is the founder of the Kremenets Lyceum.
The Rock The head of Chatsky is considered a symbol of Zhitomir and is one of the wonders of Ukraine.
