Holy Ascension Cathedral (Izyum)

The Holy Ascension Cathedral is one of the most famous temples of the city of Izyum and the entire Kharkiv region. The temple was erected in 1826. The decision to build was made to replace the church, which was located on the bank of the Seversky Donets River and under the influence of water began to collapse. Therefore, we chose a new place for the temple.

The property of the church is the icon of the Mother of God of Peschan -one of the most unique and revered shrines of Ukraine. The story of her appearance in the church is quite interesting. In 1754, St. Joasaph was going on a trip to the Belgorod diocese. A few days before the trip, he had a dream, as if he was examining churches and in one of them, among a pile of garbage, he saw an icon of the Mother of God with a baby. When the bishop arrived in the city of Izyum and visited the Ascension Church, he found the very icon that appeared to him in a dream. The icon served as a partition, for which coal was poured. Joasaph ordered the icon to be placed in the proper place. The next days the bishop spent in prayers before the icon, and in 3 days he was overtaken by death.

For more than 250 years people from all over the country have come to the icon of the Mother of God with their troubles, tears, despair and sickness. To all who believe, it always helps.

Not far from the temple there is another no less famous landmark of the region - Kirichenkova Krinitsa. Pilgrims and tourists from different parts of the country come to the holy spring for healing water.
