A unique scientific center that conducts research in the physics of near-Earth space, has been operating since 1966. In 2001 it was recognized as a scientific object representing the national property of Ukraine.

The unique scientific center, which conducts research in the field of physics of near-Earth space, has been functioning since 1966. In 2001 it was recognized as a scientific object, which is n the national wealth of Ukraine. This observatory has no equal in all of Eastern Europe. In total there are 11 such objects in the world, 5 of which are in the United States.

The Institute successfully collaborates with with many international research centers, including the best technical universities in the world - Massachusetts and Cornell (USA). Scientific conferences are held at the Institute of the Ionosphere, including the annual conference of young scientists and physicists. The observatory has a its printed publication "Radiophysics and the ionosphere".

There are 4 unique high-tech objects in the lab: HP radar (diameter 100 m), HP radar (diameter 25 m), ionosonde and decameter range stand.

To date, studies in the observatory are practically not carried out due to the lack of modern equipment, but the object is listed in the "7 Wonders of Ukraine"and is of great interest to tourists.
