Postal Area

The Postal Area is located between the streets of Sagaidachnoy, Naberezhno-Khreschatytska, Naberezhny Shosse and Vladimirsky Descent. It is said that this place was inhabited as far back as the 4th century, when it was named Khreshchatyk. Historians believe that Pochtovaya Ploshcha is the oldest place in Kiev, and, perhaps, once it was used to hold ancient Russian markets.

The modern name of Postal Square arose in the fifties of the century before last, when a postal station was built here. Then she was assigned the role of the most important transport artery of a city with a multi-level denouement, also various postal operations were actively conducted and passengers were transported from one settlement to another. Today, from the old days, only the main building of the postal station has been preserved, which is now considered a valuable architectural monument.

In addition to the post office building, you can see many other interesting and ancient sights here. Among them is the Church of the Nativity of Christ, the monument of the electric tram and the funicular station. Each of these objects has its own fascinating history.
