International Balloon Fiesta in Bristol9 photos
The International Balloon Fiesta «Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2012» took place in Bristol, England, from August 9th to 12th. On the opening day, around 100 balloons were released into the air at Ashton Court.
In addition to traditional hot-air balloons, visitors could see balloons in unusual shapes, as well as the famous Nightglow show, where dozens of brightly lit balloons floated in the sky to music.
Other performances included shows by the Royal Air Force’s «Red Arrows», the «White Helmets Motorbike Display Team» with motorcycle displays, the «Exit Parachute Display Team» with parachute demonstrations, and the Royal Navy’s «The Black Cats» with stunts on modern helicopters.
Visitors also had the opportunity to ride in a balloon themselves.
The first festival was held in 1979. It started as a small three-day event organized by a group of enthusiasts led by balloonist and designer Don Cameron. From just 27 participating teams, it has grown into Europe’s largest annual festival of its kind, attracting over 500,000 visitors every year.
