Graffiti in the Alien Zone9 photos

For most of us, “Prypjat” is far more than just a seven-letter word (a name). It represents one of the most terrifying places on the territory of the former Soviet Union. This dead city seems to come back to life only through the dozens of paintings found on its walls and inside its buildings.

It’s as if ghosts from the past have returned to bring this city back to life. Some may consider this a blasphemy, while others might actually support such an idea. After all, different people have different opinions. Most of these photographs were taken by the American photographer Jan Smith, who had previously documented the Chernobyl disaster. His earlier series featured images of abandoned children’s toys. Despite common stereotypes, we would agree with the photographer that viewing such scenes is not necessarily frightening at all.

On the contrary, it’s often quite sad. At the end, you will see a few more photographs whose authors we unfortunately do not know.
