The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in Odessa
The church was built in the shape of a Latin cross, crowned with an octagonal dome. Near the elegant bell tower. The decoration of the temple was also rich: a marble carved chair, a majestic altar, heavy bronze chandeliers and an imposing organ. In about the time of theSoviet power of all the splendor did not become in a moment.
The temple ceased its work, the priests were exiled to Siberia. The building of the church began to serve as a local history museum, and after the war it became a children's sports school. The boxing ring and the fencing hall took the place of the pulpit and altar. The burial of the mayor of Odessa, Count Langeron, became a place for long jumps. Only forty years later the Catholic shrine was restored.
The shape of the temple shone in all its glory in 1991.The parishioners managed to restore many architectural details, but the work is still ongoing. If you want to attend the Catholic Mass, come to the church on Sunday - you will hear it in three languages: Ukrainian, Russian and Polish.
