Increasingly often, Hollywood film creators are turning to the theme of alien invasion of Earth. And there is nothing surprising about this at all. Beautiful scenes of destruction, combined with the sense of pride that such films evoke in viewers while they watch us Earthlings, help to generate substantial profits from a well-made movie.

I believe that the creators of the film “Invasion: Battle for Los Angeles” followed roughly this logic. After the success of previous films, it’s quite challenging to surprise an audience accustomed to high-quality cinematography, but with enough effort, it’s still possible. The $70 million invested in “Invasion: Battle for Los Angeles” give us reason to hope that we’ll be treated to a film with stunning special effects and excellent acting. The plot of “Invasion: Battle for Los Angeles” is essentially a blend of two recently released science-fiction action films: “Black Hawk Down” and The Independence Day. The relentless depletion of natural resources on a distant alien planet gives rise to an utterly merciless form of aggression toward other worlds. For these invaders, we represent nothing but resources, while our beautiful Earth is merely an object to be exploited before being discarded. The story takes place in Los Angeles—paradise on Earth’s West Coast. When a sudden and devastating attack nearly wipes out all chances of survival for the humans, fear, panic, and the breakdown of leadership plunge the city into chaos and total destruction. But there is one last hope: a group of seasoned veterans from the U.S. Marine Corps and various elite units of the army and navy. Their mission is simple—while the entire human race struggles to defeat this merciless enemy, they must save Los Angeles and eradicate these cruel, alien creatures. The stunning apocalyptic scenes, the outstanding work of the cinematographers, and the incredible special effects make “Invasion: Battle for Los Angeles” an utterly engrossing film that captivates the audience from start to finish. The intense action ensures that viewers’ hearts will beat faster long after the credits have rolled. And as for the victory? Well… you’ll have to watch it to find out.
