Manor «Round Courtyard»
Arriving in Trostyanets, you definitely will not get lost, as on the way you will see tourist maps - stands-pointers of the sights of the city. You will need a map of the estate of Prince Vasily Golitsyn. The park is just in the center of the city, to which you can walk from the bus station.
In the park you will see the Round Courtyard. This is a unique building of eastern Ukraine. In its form, the Round Courtyard resembles an ancient amphitheater. However, the structure itself, from the time of construction in 1749, was used as a defensive reinforcement against the constant raids of the Crimean Tatars. The architect of the Round Court was Joseph Nadarzhinsky, the son of tsarist confessor Timofei Nadarzhinsky. He designed a one-story fortress in the shape of an oval, the width of which is 60 meters, and the length is 80. The round court has four three-tiered towers, similar in construction to small rotundas. The structure along the entire length is enclosed by a dull brick wall. Such gothic elements as narrow, lancet windows are arranged in two rows and separated by a relief ledge. On the east side of the Round Courtyard are the main gates through which you can get inside.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the "Ukrainian amphitheater" with its surrounding territory passed into the possession of Prince Vasily Golitsyn. From that moment a new stage in the existence of the Round Court began. The prince modernized it, turning it into a building for theater performances. Inside, three-tiered lodges for spectators were attached, and below the court serf actors played. Also, the internal premises of the towers were equipped for living rooms for the theater troupe. Various performances, ballet performances, horse and circus acrobatic performances played in the arena. Try to say some words or read a poem, being inside the Round Court. You will see that there is a wonderful acoustics here that strengthens the voice. To date, the restored Round Yard is used for various cultural events and events.
The Golitsyno Theater is joined by a manor house with a prince's palace, which you can visit at the same time. Earlier in the estate of Basil Golitsyn lived and created the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, who wrote here his famous overture "The Thunderstorm." On the territory of the manor there is a dendrological park with several ponds, centuries-old oaks and mineral springs. Also there is an alley of lovers with a monument to the heart.
